in forming a student group for
adopted Yalies?

My name is Jenna Cook and I am a
freshman in Davenport College. I was
adopted from China in 1992 and was
raised in Massachusetts. I am hoping
to form a student group adopted Yalies
to each other. Although there are
many Yale clubs that provide cultural
outreach to young children adopted
from China, Korea, or Vietnam, Yale
has yet to have a group for adopted
adults.

I am interested in exploring our
diversity of ideas and narratives,
finding common ground, and finding
friendship. Perhaps this could take
the form of panels and discussions
about adoption, fundraising for our
orphanages, or any other creative way
in which we explore our adoptive
identity. It would also be great to
engage in non-adoption related
activities—like going to the movies or
out to eat together!

This group is primarily for students
who are adopted (domestically or
internationally), but is also welcome
to students who have adopted siblings
or parents, students who may want to
adopt someday, or anyone else whose
life has been touched by adoption.
Our first meeting will be for dinner
on Thursday, February 11th at 5:30pm
in the Davenport Fellows Dining Room.
The room is inside Davenport dining
hall, up the stairs above the servery,

stairs. I’ll bring Claire’s cake for
desert!
