Connecticut Butterfly Association Field Trip

Saturday April 22, 10 AM

BLUFF HEAD, GUILFORD CT

Falcate Orangetip, West Virginia White, Brown Elfin, Juvenal's Duskywing
are just a few of the butterflies we should see.

Meet at 10 AM in the parking lot.
>From Rt 80 & 77 junction in Guilford, go north on 77 for 3 miles. Dirt
parking area is on the left beneath some large pines.

This is a unique botanical and geological area.  The trail can be steep
and rocky in some places, wear appropriate shoes.  Great view from the
Bluff.  Bring a camera, bring H2O, bring a snack, bring a friend.

West Rock Ridge State Park

This is a joint trip with Massachusetts Butterfly Club

Search for Falcate Orangetip, Juniper Hairstreak, Brown Elfin, Mourning
Cloak and other species.
Also migrating spring warblers.

Walking will be fairly easy, mostly on a paved surface with short side
trips on well worn trails.
We will walk up to the summit of West Rock looking for butterflies along
the way.
Wear appropriate shoes.

Tricky directions:

RT 15 to exit 59 (RT 63/69 exit).
Go southeast on 63 toward New Haven.  You will be on Whalley Ave.
Turn left on Blake Street in the village of Westville.
Go about a quarter of a mile to Farnam Ave and turn left.
At the end of Farnam make a left onto Wintergreen Ave.
Pass a cemetery on your right, angle left on Wintergreen to the Stop sign.
Turn right onto Springside Ave.
Go to stop sign and turn left back onto Brookside Ave.
Parking will be on the left just before Merritt Parkway underpass.
