Rich beat me to the punch with his synopsis for the Salem area, so here is the thumbnail sketch.
The East Haddam Summer Butterfly Count on July 4, 2000 had a new record total of species - 46!
Highlights were:
2 Southern Hairstreaks (form ontario) first count records and lifers for most of us,
Rich's Northern Pearly Eye (second record),
Variegated Fritillaries in two locations,
Buckeyes in 7 locations !!!,
65 Bog Coppers,
holdover Hobomok, Long Dash and Peck's Skippers,
5 species of Hairstreaks (Banded, Striped, Coral, Edward's and Southern)
both Cloudywings, with a record number of Southerns,
Aphrodite Fritillary in my yard - seen by my son Jonathan, and then re-found on 7/5 by me!
Lots of Cabbage Whites, Orange Sulphurs, Silver-spotted Skippers, and American Coppers
Skipper numbers generally were low, with the exception of 60+ Delaware Skippers
Haddam Meadows is back! After a stretch of pretty poor count years, the state didn't mow the big field, and the numbers and variety were reminiscent of the late 80's. Buckeye, Baltimore and Variegated Frit. all within 100 yards or so.

I will be e-mailing the full numbers to the count participants, but if anybody else would like them, please contact me.
