Hi John,

I had Smaller Parasa at Jamaica Bay last night and I'm glad you offered a
description of Woody Underwing. One of the common Catocala species at the JB
recently has been something similar -- Praeclara Underwing. It seems
different enough from Woody (and both were on the JB list from previous
years), but with a yellow-green tint (and no orange on the FW). The only
problem I had with commiting to this ID is that Covell describes the habitat
as "common at edges of bogs and barrens", which doesn't seem to jive with JB
(edge of Atlantic Ocean? -- that's barren of moths).

Other JB news: A Gypsy Moth --rare at JB -- last night. Could mean there's a
lot to go around. Orbed Narrow-wing numbers just keep growing, being matched
by a big outbreak of Armyworm Moths (both species coming to light, bait, and
flowers). I had an Ailanthus Silkmoth last night, with its initial
appearance on my shoulder. A new species for me and JB was an Elder Shoot
Borer Moth -- this one is a looker.

Regards,
Steve
