Saturday morning, 4/24- I walked the top of the ridge and found the following
species:

Falcate Orangetip (12+), including one female, the first female Falcate
Orangetip I've seen this year
Juniper Hairstreak (4)
Mourning Cloak (1) (worn)
American Lady (2)

The Juniper Hairstreaks were seen in the picnic area at the southern
overlook. If anyone wants to see them, the easy way to find them is to sit at one of
the picnic tables at the south end of the picnic area next to the tallest red
cedars, scan the tops of the cedars and wait for a large insect to fly near
the tops of the trees. The hairstreaks, being very territorial, would get
excited and fly after the intruder, making it easy to find them despite the fact
that they're in the treetops.

Since the upcoming week's weather report looks like it is going to be warm
and sunny after Monday, the above species and a number of other early spring
species should be on the wing next Saturday, May 1st, just in time for the field
trip Larry Gall will be leading for the CBA.
