As in past years, the period following the annual sojourn to Lake
Champlain (where the highlights were a Milbert's Tortoiseshell at my
base in So. Hero & 5 Monarchs in a nearby field) showed an increase
in activity in the ever-evolving front yard butterfly garden. Seen
there on 8/12 were:

E. Tiger Swallowtail (3)
Black Swallowtail (1)
Eastern Tailed Blue (1)
Painted Lady (1)
Monarch (1)
Peck's Skippers (12)
Tawny edged Skipper (2)
Hummingbird Clearwing Moth (1)

Perhaps because the leps were smarter than the lepper, this morning's
(8/14) immersion into the heat and humidity on Cedar Mountain behind
the Humane Society had rather sparse results:

Cabbage White (4)
Clouded Sulphur (5)
Orange Sulphur (1)
Eastern Tailed Blue (1)
Great Spangled Frit (1)
Mourning Cloak (1)
Monarch (2 - male & ovipositing female)
Silver-Spotted Skipper (1)
Least Skipper (5)
