Butterfly Sightings

On Saturday, 6/2 Bill Banks and I visited sites in Lyme and Salem where we  
were able to find a total of 27 species of butterflies.
 
In Lyme, we found the following species:
 
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (1)
Spicebush Swallowtail (2)
American Copper (25)
Eastern Tailed Blue (9)
Pearl Crescent (45)
American Lady (1)
Red-spotted Purple (1)
Little Wood Satyr (40)
Silver-spotted Skipper (1)
Southern Cloudywing (3)
Northern Cloudywing (6)
Wild Indigo Duskywing (2)
Indian Skipper (1)
Peck's Skipper (1)
Long Dash (1)
Hobomok Skipper (1)
Zabulon Skipper (1)
Dusted Skipper(9)
 
At Walden Preserve, Salem, we found the following species:
 
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (1)
Spicebush Swallowtail (5)
Clouded Sulphur (1)
Orange Sulphur (1)
Frosted Elfin (41)  (A very high count for this  species)
Summer Azure (1)
Pearl Crescent (50)
Question Mark (1)
Eastern Comma (1)
Am,erican Lady (3)
Red-spotted Purple (3)
Little Wood Satyr (60)
Common Ringlet (11)
Monarch (1)
Northern Cloudywing (2)
Wild Indigo Duskywing (6)
Peck's Skipper (3)
Tawny-edged Skipper (2)
Dusted Skipper (1)
 
Biggest miss of the day... no Cabbage Whites.  In general, pierid  numbers 
appear to be low this spring.  However, to be unable to find any  Cabbage Whites 
at all in the course of a day, that is pretty unusual.
