Connecticut Butterfly Association
SPRING MEETING

“STRUCTURAL COLORS AND HOW THEY GROW”
presented by Richard Prum, Ph.D., William Robertson Coe Professor of
Ornithology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Peabody Museum of Natural
History

Wednesday, April 29, 2009
7:30 pm (7:00 pm “social hour”)
Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station
Jones Auditorium
123 Huntington St., New Haven, CT

Two years ago, Rick Prum spoke to the CBA about the physics of butterfly
structural coloration. He will return to talk about recent research into how
the nanostructures that make these colors are self assembled during the
growth of butterfly scales and bird feathers. Rick will review the physics
and diversity of structural color production, and then focus on new data on
the development of color producing structures.

A brief but important business meeting will precede the program.
