This last Saturday (8/14/10) I took a trip to Robbins Swamp WMA in Canaan,
mostly looking for* Sphinx canadensis* and* *the Giant Swallowtail, *Papilio
cresphontes. * In the middle of the forested swamp, I came across a 3rd or
4th instar *Giant Swallowtail caterpillar* - about 3 ft. off the ground on
Northern Prickly Ash (*Zanthoxylum americanum*). This is the same swamp in
which Peter DeGenarro spotted a giant swallowtail adult on 7/18/10, so there
may be a breeding population.
