Status Update on Connecticut State-listed Lepidoptera

Dr. Wagner will review significant changes in Connecticut’s new (2010) listing
of Endangered, Threatened, and Special Concern moth and butterfly species.  He
will provide a brief analysis of conservation threats thought to be of relevance
to the state’s 77 listed species and share results of a recent assessment for
106 species of rare and declining Lepidoptera of forested communities in eastern
North America.  He will make special mention of the dire plight of the Northern
Metalmark Butterfly (Calephelis borealis) in the Northeast.  Finally, Dr.
Wagner will close with a discussion of some of the State’s hotspots for
imperiled Lepidoptera, and share word of recent findings at two newly-discovered
sites that hold particular promise for taxa of conservation interest.

Jane O’Donnell will be sending along four newly re-curated drawers displaying
the state’s listed insects.
