Diane - I suspect that the 1st instar caterpillars won't look just like older ones. But here are a couple of pix:

The caterpillars started coming out today--they do look like the first instar Giant Swallowtail caterpillars I found online. Could I have Giant Swallowtail caterpillars if I've never seen the adults in my yard??

Hoping that the other critters on the plant--ants, flies, etc. won't eat them before I get a chance to figure out what they are!
