eye-spot butterfly- Windsor Locks

Last evening a butterfly I'd never seen before visited my garden in Windsor Locks. It had lots of eyespots, so it looks like a Buckeye. But when I reviewed the Buckeye dimensions, it looks to be 2 to 2 ½ inches in size. The one last night was about 4-5 inches- very large!!!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might have been? Could it have been some type of moth?
