The Connecticut Butterfly Association is pleased to announce its 2012 Spring
Indoor Meeting. 

"Homeland Diversity:  Using Native Plants to Attract Birds, Butterflies, and
Moths to Your Yard", an illustrated talk by Andy Brand, avid local
horticulturist naturalist, and plantsman.

Wednesday April 18, 2012, 7:00 pm, Connecticut Agricultural Experiment
Station Jones Auditorium, 123 Huntington St, New Haven, CT

1)      We ask print publications to include the meeting in their calendars
of nature and community events.

 

2)  We ask libraries and others with bulletin boards to open, print and post
the attachment and pass it along to anyone who might be interested.  And
feel free to make additional copies as needed!

 

In deciding whether to print or post this information, please consider that
persons interested in butterfly lore are often willing to travel
considerable distances to explore and share their enthusiasm with
like-minded folk.

2012 ANNUAL MEETING
 
 
"Homeland Diversity:  Using Native Plants to Attract Birds, Butterflies, and
Moths to Your Yard" 
presented by Andy Brand
 
Wednesday April 18, 2012, 7:30 pm (7:00 pm "social hour" followed by
announcements, elections, and the speaker)
Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station Jones Auditorium, 123 Huntington
St.,New Haven, CT
 

Andy has been involved in agriculture his entire life. After graduating from
UConn with a BS in Environmental Horticulture and an MS in Plant Science,
Andy spent two years operating a plant tissue culture lab at the Plant Group
in North Franklin. For the past 22 years he has been employed at Broken
Arrow Nursery in Hamden where he is currently the nursery manager.  Andy is
a past President of the Connecticut Nursery and Landscape Association and
received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the UConn College of
Agriculture and Natural Resources Alumni Association. He has put his
interest in native plants to use as a volunteer for the New England Plant
Conservation Program where he helps monitor historical sites of endangered
native plants. 

Besides his love for plants, Andy is an avid naturalist. He is a cofounder
and past President of the Connecticut Butterfly Association. In Hamden, he
works hard to protect the town's open space and natural resources as a
member of the Hamden Land Conservation Trust and the Inland Wetlands
Commission. Andy has spoken to many groups throughout the northeast on a
range of topics including native plants, new and unusual ornamentals,
butterfly gardening, and how to attract more wildlife to your yard. 

 

Also at this meeting is the election of Officers for the next 2 year term in
CBA.

Nominees are:  Roy Zartarian for President, Skip Short for Secretary and
Lenny Brown for Treasurer.  The Vice President position is open to nominees
from the floor.

 

Directions to the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, New Haven,
CT:  From I-91 take Exit 6, Willow St. Turn Right onto Willow St.  At the
end of Willow turn Right onto Whitney Ave. Take the 3rd left onto Huntington
St.  Just beyond the cross street turn right into the CT Agricultural
Station's driveway.  Proceed to Jones Auditorium.
