To Follow up on Peter’s report. Jim Dugan and I went to the Prospect Ridge location on Friday afternoon and had at least 3 each of Brown Elfin and Juvenal’s Duskywing. We also had one Spicebush Swallowtail in the woods on the way up. The hike is not for the faint of heart. They don’t call it “steep climb trail” for nothing!

It's been a cold and rainy spring, but here are the results of getting out in the field during a couple of moments of warmth recently:

5/6 - Southington Mountain/Compounce Ridge, Southington - the goal was to explore the cliffs above Lake Compounce for Falcate Orangetip, of which there are only historical records from non-trap ridges in CT (as far as I know). However, I was not able to find the correct trail, but I did end up at a bald to the south which held at least two Brown Elfins: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.flickr.com_photos_connecticutpete_34623499476_&d=DwIGaQ&c=-dg2m7zWuuDZ0MUcV7Sdqw&r=wPbNkt6T_H4X7m_PlvSFCGU2a9-csNvfRK2IVMi-mp0&m=fuP1YRfOUZHJ_FfthlEGuRTCTqVHWtVs11wXd7GAVVI&s=-pSlZv3eh6hZ5gECqLnYpMZriIcJR2D6qKddXrppAqY&e= <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.flickr.com_photos_connecticutpete_34623499476_&d=DwMFaQ&c=-dg2m7zWuuDZ0MUcV7Sdqw&r=wPbNkt6T_H4X7m_PlvSFCGU2a9-csNvfRK2IVMi-mp0&m=M_vr55WYvfu6gSETmn6TwlU1Ud6Rm72-IIQOhJtmgGM&s=Y4mKVtsvZiGjj_AqX8_oTDMo7vnQJfZJLPhvYsg4xVY&e=>

Also around were two Eastern Tiger Swallowtails, a worn Spring Azure, and two Juvenal's Duskywings.

4/29 - Hidden Valley Preserve, Washington - about 6 West Virginia Whites were flying, including one along the river by the bridge near the parking lot. Toothwort was the whites' nectar source: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.flickr.com_photos_connecticutpete_34257001390_&d=DwIGaQ&c=-dg2m7zWuuDZ0MUcV7Sdqw&r=wPbNkt6T_H4X7m_PlvSFCGU2a9-csNvfRK2IVMi-mp0&m=fuP1YRfOUZHJ_FfthlEGuRTCTqVHWtVs11wXd7GAVVI&s=S9ACwd1ESJ-FgAv48rwikuQaXfRHYeVt9fOgJik9CUU&e= <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.flickr.com_photos_connecticutpete_34257001390_&d=DwMFaQ&c=-dg2m7zWuuDZ0MUcV7Sdqw&r=wPbNkt6T_H4X7m_PlvSFCGU2a9-csNvfRK2IVMi-mp0&m=M_vr55WYvfu6gSETmn6TwlU1Ud6Rm72-IIQOhJtmgGM&s=aNTH6u-A10woauE0I-7yOmiRJOy0dpDYDmMZM_MLfis&e=>
