<DIV>On Saturday, 6/30, I visited West Rock Ridge St. Park and found a total of
21 species of butterflies.</DIV>

<DIV>In the Lake Wintergreen section of the park in Hamden, I found the
following:</DIV>

<DIV>Cabbage White (9)</DIV>
<DIV>Orange Sulphur (1)</DIV>
<DIV>Eastern Tailed Blue (1)</DIV>
<DIV>Variegated Fritillary (1) (My first of the year; historically, a rarely
encountered species in this park)</DIV>
<DIV>Great Spangled Fritillary (10)</DIV>
<DIV>Question Mark (1)</DIV>
<DIV>Common Buckeye (1) (My first of the year; historically, another rarely
encountered species in this park) </DIV>
<DIV>Appalachian Brown (1)</DIV>
<DIV>Little Wood Satyr (1) (second brood)</DIV>
<DIV>Common Wood Nymph (10)</DIV>
<DIV>Monarch (9)</DIV>
<DIV>Silver-spotted Skipper (2)</DIV>
<DIV>Hoary Edge (1)</DIV>
<DIV>Southern Cloudywing (3)</DIV>
<DIV>Northern Broken Dash (3)</DIV>
<DIV>Little Glassywing (20)</DIV>
<DIV>Delaware Skipper (10)</DIV>

<DIV>I also walked the top of the ridge from the parkway south to the southern
overlook and found very, very few butterflies. However, the fact that I
was out in the hottest part of the day may account for my lack of
success. My anemic list for this section of the park is as follows:</DIV>
