There was a beautiful Common Checkered Skipper at Stratford Point just now feeding on frost aster, which was uncommon at the point last year, but we scattered 10,000’s of seeds last fall and it is now everywhere here. On the same plant
within a period of about 10 minutes there were six species of butterflies with 10 Monarchs at once! In addition to the skipper and Monarchs there were: Common Buckeye, Gray Hairstreak, Orange Sulphur and two Variegated Fritillaries.

Speaking of Monarchs, there are well more than 100 on the property today and still one caterpillar on butterfly weed near the office. In addition to the above mentioned species there have also been American Lady, Black Swallowtail, Cabbage
White, Cloudless and Clouded Sulphurs. You have to love these warm October days, now if we only could get some rain!
