*The role and its responsibilities*<br>
<br>
The Post-Doctoral Research Assistant will work closely with the Principal<br>
Investigator on collaborative research projects and publications using<br>
philological, comparative, and computational approaches to the languages<br>
and linguistics of the Sino-Tibetan family, and will support the broader<br>
aims and activities of the research project as a whole.<br>
<br>
A high degree of computer literacy, ideally including knowledge of one or<br>
more programming languages, is required. The appointee will have a high<br>
degree of self-motivation and a demonstrable pride in the quality of<br>
written work and research previously undertaken. The ability to keep<br>
careful records and referencing is essential.<br>
<br>
*Skills and experience*<br>
<br>
PhD in linguistics or other relevant discipline, with a strong background<br>
in historical linguistics and the comparative method (such as in<br>
Indo-European or Semitic), is essential. The ability to code in one or more<br>
computer language (in particular Python or Javascript) and knowledge of or<br>
experience in working with a Sino-Tibetan language are highly desirable.<br>
The applicant should have the ability to synthesise complex arguments and<br>
write in bold and clear prose. Ability to read Chinese will be an advantage.<br>
