</b></font><font size=3>The Crimson Summer Exchange (CSE) is a
cross-cultural educational program that brings Western university
students (Fellows) and Chinese youth together in a learning environment
intended to bridge cultures. As one of the most highly regarded
summer programs for high school and entering university students in
China, CSE has served more than 1000 students over four years. CSE
continues to strive to create meaningful cross-cultural dialogue among
Fellows and students, to cultivate intellectual curiosity and cultural
awareness, and to build new perspectives and lasting friendships.
Supported by an innovative curriculum, the 2008 CSE Fellows will bring
their experiences and passions as undergraduate and graduate students at
leading world universities to lead and mentor students in Hong Kong SAR
and Mainland China.<br><br>
</font><font size=3 color="#800080"><b>Theme of CSE 2008<br>
</b></font><font size=3>The theme of this year’s CSE program is
“Inspiring the Next Generation: Building a Sustainable Global
Community”. This theme will be accessed through projects and
dialogue (in English) and with an emphasis on the following six CSE
Learning Goals:

<li>Enhance communication
<li>Encourage empathy
<li>Inspire self-belief
<li>Foster an innovative mind
<li>Promote positive attitude
<li>Inculcate an ability to learn

</font><font size=3 color="#800080"><b>Program Details<br>
</b></font><font size=3>Crimson Summer Exchange (CSE) 2008 takes place in
two cities:
<ul>
<li>Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region, China: <b>July 14-July 28,
2008</b>
<li>Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China: <b>August 1-August 15, 2008</b>
</ul>There will be an Orientation and Fellow Training session prior to
the program commencement and the entire program duration is from <b>July
11August 18, 2008</b>. The program consists of daily classes from
approximately 9am-4pm and will also include additional activities for
students. <br><br>
</font><font size=3 color="#800080"><b>Fellows<br>
</b>Fellows from Harvard,<b> Yale </b>and Cambridge
Universities</font><font size=3 color="#FF0000"><b>
</b></font><font size=3>will work with groups of approximately 12
students to better understand and participate in a sustainable, global
community. Fellows will lead the students in projects that further
develop their verbal, listening and writing skills, as well as address
the six CSE Learning Goals. The CSE curriculum consists of a
framework and sample lessons that continue to evolve each year with
contributions from Fellows. It is written to be an adaptable guide
for the incoming 2008 Fellows. Graduates of the Harvard Graduate
School of Education have consistently participated in general program
development and curricular guidance. The CSE staff will provide
opportunities for Fellows to learn program facilitation and develop
leadership skills.<br><br>
</font><font size=3 color="#800080"><b>Students<br>
</b></font><font size=3>The students in Hong Kong range from ages 16-19
and the students in Hangzhou range from ages 17-19. Students in Hong Kong
and Hangzhou are selected from local secondary schools by recommendation
of their respective schools for their eagerness and interest in creating
a bridge between China and the global community.<br><br>
</font><font size=3 color="#800080"><b>The Fellowship Award<br>
</b></font><font size=3>Crimson Summer Exchange (CSE) 2008 will award
twenty (20) fellowships to undergraduate or graduate students (or
recent graduates) from Harvard,
</font><font size=3 color="#800080"><b>Yale</b></font><font size=3> and
Cambridge Universities. The fellowship award consists of the
following:
<ul>
<li>Round-trip economy airline ticket from New York (USA) or London (UK)
to Hong Kong
<li>Transportation (including airline tickets and ground transport)
between Hong Kong and Hangzhou
<li>Accommodation at the host university. Fellows will be expected
to share a double room with a Fellow of the same gender. Internet
connections are available
<li>Daily allowance of 100HKD/day
</ul><br>
</font><font size=3 color="#800080"><b>Selection Criteria<br>
</b></font><font size=3>Fellow selection is competitive. Eligible
applicants will meet the following criteria:
<ul>
<li>Currently enrolled students (or recent graduates) in the
undergraduate or graduate programs of Harvard, Yale or Cambridge
Universities. Applicants of other leading institutions will be
considered on an individual basis.
<li>Must be open-minded and flexible; eager to learn about new cultures
and share own experiences;
<li>Must have a desire to teach and mentor enthusiastic students;
<li>Must be a native-English speaker;
<li>Must be in good academic standing and demonstrate a strong
extra-curricular history.

</b></font><font size=3>1. Complete the CSE 2008 Fellows Application
Form. Please contact our Office to obtain the CSE 2008 Application

2. Submit the completed application (with essays and references) to Ms.

(phone or in-person). The interviews will be held between the

The Crimson Summer Exchange (CSE) is jointly organized and sponsored by
the Crimson China Cultural Exchange Foundation Limited (CCCEF) and the
University of Hong Kong (HKU). Founded in 2005 through the vision
of alumni and friends of Harvard University, the CCCEF is a non-profit
organization and approved charity registered in Hong Kong (No.
91/7798). In addition to Harvard, the CCCEF has expanded its
network to include alumni from Yale and Cambridge universities.<br><br>
CCCEF’s Vision: To serve as a bridge to global partnership and world
peace for a aspiring youth from China and the West.<br>
CCCEF’s Mission: To organize the Crimson Summer Exchange (CSE) program
and other suitable educational programs for the intellectual and cultural

In its fourth year of cooperation, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) is
proud to be working with the Crimson China Cultural Exchange Foundation
Limited (CCCEF) as the joint-organizer of CSE.<br><br>
Recently ranked the 18th top university in the world by the Times Higher
Education Supplement 2007, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) is a
comprehensive university, with 10 faculties offering 27 different
undergraduate degree programs and over 100 post-graduate
programs. Located in Pokfulam on Hong Kong island, the
University is minutes away from the political, financial and cultural
centre of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

In its second year of cooperation, Zhejiang University is the
co-organizer and host institution for the CSE program in Mainland
China. Zhejiang University was established in 1897 and is a key
comprehensive university located in the city of Hangzhou, China.
Located in Zhejiang Province, south of Shanghai, Hangzhou is one of the
“Seven Ancient Capitals of China” and is built around the picturesque
West Lake.<br><br>
