This is a response in awkward favor of a large corporation, but I have found the Tsutaya in Shibuya to have an excellent collection of Japanese DVDs, while the Shinjuku branch has a good stock of videos. Among the Japanese DVDS at Shibuya, about 10-15% seem have English subtitles with 90s filmmakers such as Kurosawa Kiyoshi, Aoyama Shinji, and Koreeda Hirokazu among the subtitled discs. On a recent inspection of what was for sale, I found more than 40 English subtitled DVDs on the shelves. Prices are prohibitively expensive with most discs around 4700 yen but the occasional disc was 20% or even half off.<BR>

I'd be very happy to learn where online shoppers have been going. It would be helpful if people adding to this thread can indicate whether they have experienced any shipping territory limitations.<BR>
