The Blessing Bell is reviewed on this months Midnight Eye - Dolls and Snake
of June are in the review archive. Hotel Hibiscus is covered in the
round up of the TIFF, and was probably one of the most cloying films I saw
there - terrible piece of cutesy fluff revolving around an extended
family living in Okinawa. Does anyone out there disagree with me on my
harsh assessment? It picked up an award if I remember rightly,
though certainly didn't deserve it. Woman of Water I haven't seen, but I saw
a trailer and everyone I know who saw it says it was very
arty but ultimately pretentious and extremely dull. Asakusa Kid is by Makoto
Shinozaki, and was a made for cable TV adaptation of Kitano's
autobiographical novel.
Hope this
helps,
Jasper

www.midnighteye.com
