We're bringing Miike and star / pop singer Sho Sakurai to NYC for the premiere on Friday the 6th (a screening not open to the public), in conjunction with Nikkatsu and the NY Comic Con. Miike will host a panel at the Comic Con on Friday afternoon, as well. <div><br></div><div>We had originally wanted to plan a lot of additional events with him in NYC - including talks at NYU and/or Columbia - but most of our proposals were shot down by the Japanese companies involved.<div><br></div><div>Marc Walkow</div><div>NY Asian Film Festival</div><div><br><div><br><div><div>On Jan 29, 2009, at 12:06 AM, <a href="mailto:KineJapan@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu">KineJapan@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu</a> wrote:</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"><blockquote type="cite"><br><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">        </span><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">        </span><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">        </span> KINEJAPAN Digest 2566<br><br>Topics covered in this issue include:<br><br> 1) Fwd: An Incisive Afternoon with Director Takashi Miike<br><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">        </span>by Aaron Gerow <<a href="mailto:aaron.gerow@yale.edu">aaron.gerow@yale.edu</a>><br><br><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px;"><span style="font-family:'Helvetica'; font-size:medium; color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5);"><b>From: </b></span><span style="font-family:'Helvetica'; font-size:medium;">Aaron Gerow <<a href="mailto:aaron.gerow@yale.edu">aaron.gerow@yale.edu</a>><br></span></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px;"><span style="font-family:'Helvetica'; font-size:medium; color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5);"><b>Date: </b></span><span style="font-family:'Helvetica'; font-size:medium;">January 28, 2009 6:29:49 PM EST<br></span></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px;"><span style="font-family:'Helvetica'; font-size:medium; color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5);"><b>To: </b></span><span style="font-family:'Helvetica'; font-size:medium;"><a href="mailto:KineJapan@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu">KineJapan@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu</a><br></span></div><div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px;"><span style="font-family:'Helvetica'; font-size:medium; color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5);"><b>Subject: </b></span><span style="font-family:'Helvetica'; font-size:medium;"><b>Fwd: An Incisive Afternoon with Director Takashi Miike</b><br></span></div><br><br><br><br>Begin forwarded message:<br><blockquote type="cite"><br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite"><br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite"><br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite"><br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite"><br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite">From Gore to Westerns:<br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite">An Incisive Afternoon with Director Takashi Miike<br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite">Saturday, February 7<br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite">2:00 pm<br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite"><br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite"><br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite">Miike's 2001 film, Ichi the Killer.<br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite"><br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite">From the gory horror of Audition (1999) to the spaghetti western parodySukiyaki Western Django (2007) to the musical comedy The Happiness of the Katakuris (2001), Japan’s busiest film director Takashi Miike has made over 50 films in the widest range of possible genres.
