Thanks very much for this, Faith. The review is vague about the storyline, just saying that the intention of the film is to protest - discreetly - against the feminine condition in the Far East. Then are listed some scenes which impressed the critic, like the return of the maiden to her mother's place, a prayer in the night, the mother's death and an adorable baby appearing several times... The last part of the film also seemed two contain two violent scenes. And the story is considered to be "pleasant, without real conclusion, everyone letting oneself drift..." Two, with leads Yagumo Emiko & Hayashi Chitose, are in Sato Tadao's "Obake entotsu no sekai: eiga kantoku gosho heinosuke no hito to shigoto"(1977). Does the review mention any of the story? According to Yagumo's bio, the musume was an ex-bar worker who comes home ill to have her budding romance with a lodger wrecked by her jealous mom, whose lover she then gets pregnant by and commits suicide by throwing herself off an unspecified height.
