interesting piece by Chris Fujiwara on the adaptation of Ozu’s last script,

answering the question forming in my head from last week’s Berlinale screenings
– How was it that <I>Daikon to ninjin</I> felt totally like a Shibuya film,
whereas all the other ones felt like the work of whatever scriptwriter was
engaged.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P style="MARGIN: 4pt 0cm 0pt" class=MsoNormal><FONT face=Arial>The short
season, of the eight films from the 50s and 60s shown at Tokyo Filmex, are
repeated this week at Berlin Arsenal and later at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1
ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on">Hong
Kong</st1:place>. <SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>They turned out
to be quite a good vehicle for comparing scriptwriters and they are all
fine-looking prints, many in scope and colour with a parade of famous faces and
names from the period.</FONT></P>
