Little attention has been paid to the proliferation of Butoh training and performance in Japan since the 1970s and across the world since the 1980s, or to the experimentalism and openness that remain part of the genre's continuing legacy. <b>Between Experiment, Form and Culturalism: Butoh in History and Contemporary Practice</b><span style="font-weight: normal; "> seeks to remedy this gap in scholarship by bringing together leading Butoh practitioners and scholars from Japan and North America for a groundbreaking meeting that considers issues of the form's historiography alongside contemporary questions of practice and aesthetics.
