lang=EN-US>Actually, in my opinion, there is no Japanese musical which
rivals it, even among those made after WWII. There may be a couple of reasons
why it is of such a high quality; the already existed tradition of Asakusa
operetta, the importation of jazz music, the mastery of film making of the
director, Makino Masahiro, and so on. My hypothesis is that, being produced
under Japanese militaristic era, it shares the position with Vienna operetta,
which flourished along with the ever increasing political tension in
19<SUP>th</SUP> century within Hapsburg Empire.</SPAN></P>
