I have not looked recently but it was an interesting site last time I looked. At the Kyoto Consortium when I taught a class on translation some years ago, I gave an assignment for students to try doing a certain amount of subtitling on this site and then write
about it. It was an easy way for undergraduates to get a practical sense of what it is like to do that work, and good listening practice as well.

<div style="font-size:small" class="">They seem to have borrowed the model used by the major Chinese fan subbing organizations, where you have leaders at the top of teams that manage various steps in the subtitling process. But anyone can join as a subtitler,
contributing to spotting, or subtitling or quality control. It's pretty fascinating. </div>

<div style="font-size:small" class="">A couple years ago Rakuten bought the site out for a reported $200 million or more. The business model uses ads, which can be turned off if you subscribe. And it looks like you get the subscription if you start subtitling. </div>
