<div class="moz-cite-prefix">Dear Takuya, dear all, <br>
<br>
Sorry for a late answer. In fact, I got interested in the
influence Sato had on Soda and also on Funahashi when working on
Japanese documentaries on the 311 catastrophe. I recently
published a book of interviews with film directors, at the
University of Tokyo Press (UTCP Booklet, bilingual french-english)
: <i>Fukushima in Film, Voices from Japanese Cinema</i>. Both
Soda and Funahashi have interviews in it. Page 108, Soda mentions
Sato's influence during his formative years. If anyone in the
KineJapaners community is interested, please email me. I will be
very happy to send a pdf version of the printed book, since it's
currently impossible to buy the book, and UTCP will soon post an
online version of the book...<br>
Best regards,<br>

<pre wrap="">Thank you Markus for letting us know about the retrospective. This is
more like an appendix to your posting, but we are having Soda Kazuhiro
for a lecture/workshop and a screening of his Campaign 2 (2013) at
Colgate on 4/7 and 4/8. I would like to inquire about it when he is
here, as it is indeed intriguing to think about the link between Sato
Makoto and the documentarists (and audiences) from the post-Hara
generation… I hear that Soda’s latest work, Oyster Factory (Kaki
koba), is also doing well in Japan.
In the meantime, please let me know if any of you KineJapaners happen
to be around Central NY area on these days!
Best,
Takuya

<pre wrap="">I wasn't there, but I think the book's title is very beautiful and captures
perfectly the essence of Sato's last works.

There is a new book on Sato Makoto (<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__satoyamasha.com_-3Fp-3D777&d=CwMDaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=e7qMG9KFq7WNnPQWULWHJA&m=kPQLJesOSWKQPC51_fCh_wYSikURXnLZHA_pjCG7pU8&s=fBlIySohSR_f8pzkTfKr1vSkutzEUSi7FzfQPffgFcI&e=">http://satoyamasha.com/?p=777</a>), and a
retrospective in Tokyo kicked off the publication this weekend. There were
many interesting speakers, like Funahashi Atsushi, Soda Kazuhiro, Kobayashi
Shigeru, and others. Did anyone go? And if so, any thoughts?
I heard it was packed. This is interesting, because last year Hara Kazuo's
Cinema Juku was embarrassingly empty. The contrast is interesting, and I
wonder what it signals....
