Some famous examples include Suzuki Sumiko’s ghost cat films in the late 1930s, Irie Takako’s ghost cat films in the early 50s, and the Shintoho ghost films in the late fifties, with Nakagawa’s Tokaido Yotsuya kaidan (1959) being the most famous. There seem to have been about a dozen versions of Yotsuya kaidan made in the twenties alone, so there were plenty of silent ghost films.
