As Linda notes, Donald always had great stories. I still remember my first dinner with him, back in 1981 I think it was, when he came to speak on Kurosawa for the U of Chicago retrospective, he kept all of us enthralled for hours over a long Chinese meal!<div>Lola <br><br>On Friday, 19 June 2020, Markus Nornes via KineJapan <<a href="mailto:kinejapan@mailman.yale.edu">kinejapan@mailman.yale.edu</a>> wrote:<br><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr">Thinking about Donald Richie while reading up on Film Anpan, I did some Googling and stumbled on this site: <div><br></div><div><a href="https://www.moma.org/calendar/exhibitions/2695" target="_blank">https://www.moma.org/calendar/<wbr>exhibitions/2695</a></div><div><br></div><div>Moma has a small, online record of Donald Richie's 90-film retrospective. The press release has the film list. It's an interesting selection. I didn't realize it was linked to the opening of the National Museum of Modern Art's Film Museum. Richie also programmed a retrospective of silent American film to send to Japan. </div><div><br></div><div>I once visited their archive to see what Richie left behind. Charles Silver was so welcoming, and searched their cabinets high and low for correspondence, memos and the like. Unfortunately, there wasn't much.
