research project concerning Sessue Hayakawa, and I am looking for the
institution or researcher that could best use the research materials I have
collected. These materials consist of information from prewar Japanese
publications, Japanese posters, photographs, recent books from Japan about the
actor, postcards, a phonograph record and accompanying songbook, tear sheets
from Japanese magazines (some in color), the transcript of an oral history
interview, and a Japanese autobiography, dedicated and signed (completely
different from the English book). </span></div>

appearance in “Typhoon” and I collected material in several languages about
that work and its various forms (translations, film, stage; in four languages),
with the intent of exploring Hayakawa in the context of cultural studies, or rest-of-the-world
perceptions of Japan and the Japanese during the actor’s lifetime. I published
a study about the “The Vermilion Pencil,” examining its different versions
including the film with Hayakawa </span> (
