High-tech agricultural fields in Washtenaw county in SE Michigan are basically biological deserts except for their cash crops. They are terrible places for native butterflies, other biodiversity, and functioning complex native ecosystems. I doubt too that they are ecologically good for butterflies and other native insect populations any other place outside of Washtenaw county where they are found.

Roger Kuhlman
Ann Arbor, Michigan

> From: monarch@saber.net
> Date: Fri, 15 Feb 2013 13:43:58 -0800
> To: leps-l@mailman.yale.edu
> Subject: Re: [Leps-l] [leps-talk] Monarch Armageddon
>
> On Feb 15, 2013, at 1:00 PM, MexicoDoug wrote:
>
> > I added the search term "Armageddon" for fun.
>
> Doug, it was Lincoln Brower who first set the precedent
> for using the word "Armageddon" in this article and others like it:
>
> In the article Lincoln said this about Roundup herbicide use
> in the GMO crops of the upper Midwest:
>
> “It kills everything.
