Subject: Historical Documentary about the "Shtetl by the Sea" Coming to NY/NJ
     Metro Area

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to announce that WHERE NEON GOES TO DIE, a documentary about
South Beach's lost 'shtetl by the sea', is coming to television in the New
York/New Jersey metropolitan area this holiday season. WNJN, which
broadcasts its digital signal from Philadelphia to New Jersey and NYC/Long
Island will broadcast Neon non-stop from December 29 at 9PM every six hours
until January 5 at 3:00 PM.

Neon is the first film to capture Yiddish culture's first American revival.
On South Beach from the 1920s to the 80's Yiddish culture blossomed while it
was dissipating in many other places in the country. At its height, Miami
hosted half a dozen Yiddish theaters including the longest running Yiddish
vaudeville theater in the world, fifteen chapters of the Workmen's Circle,
eight radio stations broadcasting Yiddish radio, (including one broadcast
from a deli), radical Yiddish organizations, choruses and more. WHERE NEON
GOES TO DIE captures the rise of this "shtetl by the sea" and how
gentrification and a host of other factors turned South Beach from cultural
mecca to cultural wasteland in a short period of time.

The film will broadcast on NJN2, one of two digital channels offered by
WNJN. Check local listings and your cable provider for the exact channel

Where Neon Goes to Die makes a great gift for Yiddish lovers of all ages as
well as bubbes and zeydes who wish to pass the torch onto the next
generation. You can own the DVD which not only includes the film, but a
number of special interviews, outtakes and snippets of Yiddish radio
Miami-style. To order on-line safely and securely go to:
www.yiddishculture.org and hit the "Where Neon Goes to Die" button. It
makes a great gift and a great reminiscence of a world that once was.

Mit grus,

David Weintraub
