Subject:: Historical cartography, statistical info. on Yiddish and
Hebrew Publishing
Dear Friends,
I am doing a research work for my Ph.D. dissertation about the printed
word in the Argentinian Jewish Community. So far, I have been able to
draw a first image of the way Buenos Aires participated in a world net
of Jewish book production and circulation, mainly in Yiddish. The
second step of my research is to analyze the strong translation activity
carried out by local editors and intellectuals so as to build a Jewish
culture in Spanish. From the analysis of catalogues of different
Yiddish libraries in Argentina and USA as well as some private
collections here in Buenos Aires, I was able to observe the shifts in
the publishing and circulation of Yiddish and Hebrew books along the
XXth century. This exploration allowed me to propose some hypothesis.
Nevertheless I am very interested to have a more precise historical map
of the Jewish publishing cities and houses along the XXth century.
Therefore I am wondering if anyone has already done research on this
topic or knows about some kind of historical cartography and statistical
information of Yiddish and Hebrew book publishing around the world
during this period.
If anyone has any answer to these questions or any information to
contribute, please contact me: aledujovne at gmail.com

Thank you very much,
Alejandro Dujovne
