Mendele Personal Notices and Announcements

October 30, 2012

To minimize wear and tear on the untershames, three requests:

1. Send time-sensitive notices well in advance.

2. Send material as plain text: no HTML, other coding,or

attachments;and write MENDELE PERSONALS in the subject line.

3. Correspond directly with the person who or organization which has posted
the notice, *not* with your ever-beleaguered untershames.

For Mendele readers who understand spoken Russian, there is a fascinating
film (about 40 minutes) about Birobidzhan, its history and current status,
at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEkb5_X_pMw

The narration and interviews are in Russian, but there are brief segments
in Yiddish, as well. Even if you don't understand Russian, the film is
worth watching.

It was especially interesting to see that the editor of the "Shtern"
newspaper is a Russian woman (married to a Jew), who studied Yiddish in
university!
