Mendele Personal Notices and Announcements

October 30, 2012

To minimize wear and tear on the untershames, three requests:

1. Send time-sensitive notices well in advance.

2. Send material as plain text: no HTML, other coding,or

attachments;and write MENDELE PERSONALS in the subject line.

3. Correspond directly with the person who or organization which has
posted the notice, *not* with your ever-beleaguered untershames.

I am trying to find someone who speaks Yiddish who might
(occasionally) visit (or even just call) my 88-year-old mother for
conversations in Yiddish. My mother, who lives on Manhattan’s Upper
East Side, spoke Yiddish before she spoke English, although born in
this country. She bemoans the fact that she has no one with whom to
speak Yiddish, and sometimes speaks to herself in Yiddish just to feel
the language. She is an intelligent, well-educated, and delightful
woman who is more and more confined to her apartment, and it would be
great to find someone kind enough to visit or call for the purpose of
allowing her to enjoy the occasional Yiddish conversation.

Many thanks,

Jean Rawitt
