Mendele Personal Notices and Announcements

December 29, 2013

To minimize wear and tear on the untershames, three requests:

1. Send time-sensitive notices well in advance.

2. Send material as plain text to victor.bers at yale.edu as plain text (no
HTML, other coding,or

attachments and write MENDELE PERSONALS in the subject line.

3. Correspond directly with the person who or organization which has posted
the notice, *not* with your ever-beleaguered untershames.

[Correcting the Untershames’s double drukfeler in the earlier posting]

We are pleased to announce the launch of Leyenzal - A Yiddish Literacy
Project (www.leyenzal.org). The Leyenzal is an online Yiddish reading
group. Every two weeks, users are able to download an excerpt of a novel, a
story, or a selection of poems along with an original Yiddish-language
lecture about the text. Professor Kalmen Weiser (York University, Toronto)
has delivered the Leyenzal's first lecture on Ber Borokhov's influential
essay "Di ufgabn fun der yidisher filologye" [The Tasks of Yiddish
Philology] (1913), in celebration of the hundredth anniversary of its
publication. In January 2014, users will be able to download a series of
lectures on Mendele's "Masoes Binyomen hashlishi" [The Travels of Benjamin
the Third] delivered by Yitskhok Niborski (Parizer yidish-tsenter).
