Mendele Personal Notices and Announcements

To minimize wear and tear on the untershames, three requests:

1. Send time-sensitive notices well in advance.
2. Send material as plain text to victor.bers at yale.edu as plain text (no
HTML, other  coding, or attachments) and write MENDELE PERSONALS in the
subject line.
3. Correspond directly with the person who or organization which has posted
the notice, *not* with your ever-beleaguered untershames.

Subhect: Der Yiddisher Idol



 “Der Yiddisher Idol” was born in Mexico City 3 years ago. It is an
international Yiddish singing contest for people of all ages, created by
Yiddish lovers who fervently believe that Yiddish must be preserved not
only as a language, but mainly as a Culture, close to adult and youngster’s
hearts and minds.

It was in the second year that the Yiddisher Idol became an international
competition with representation not only from Mexico, but also from
Argentina, USA, Israel and Germany.
The contest this year will take place on June 11th.
It  is divided into 2 categories:
I.-  ORIGINAL LYRICS, (IN YIDDISH), USING EITHER EXISTING MUSIC OR ORIGINAL
MUSIC AUTHORED BY THE CONTESTANT (PARTICIPANTS 16 YEARS AND OLDER)
A) The song lyrics must be original, unpublished, and performed in Yiddish,
with original or existing music.
B) Any musical genre and any kind of musical arrangement are acceptable.
C) The minimum length of the song must be 2:30 minutes.
D) Judging criteria: quality of performance, and lyrics.

II. PERFORMANCE OF A SONG IN YIDDISH (AN EXISTING YIDDISH SONG OR A SONG
TRANSLATED FROM ANY OTHER LANGUAGE)
(PARTICIPANTS 16 AND OLDER)
A) Lyrics of any existing song may be translated from any language into
Yiddish ,or participants may perform any existing Yiddish song.
B) Any musical genre and any kind of musical arrangement are acceptable.
C) The minimum length of the song must be 2:30 minutes.
D) Judging criteria: quality of performance, and lyrics.
To register all participants must submit to the organizing committee the
following material:
a)    An original video of the contestant performing the participating song
b)    The song’s lyrics

The material must be sent via e-mail, indicating the URL address where the
video has been uploaded (YouTube, Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc.), or send the
link via e-mail to:    ijbin at deridisheridol.com    (by april 23th).

Selected finalists (four or five) will be flown free of charge, to perform
live at the Bet El Congregation in Mexico City. They will be housed in
Jewish community families’ private homes.

Prizes:  First place in each category will be awarded the following
monetary prize:
- Category I – $ 18,000.00  mexican pesos( aprox. $1,000.00US. Dollars)
- Category II - $ 9,000.00  mexican pesos  aprox. $500.00(US Dollars)
- Young Performers – A non-monetary gift to all participants
