<P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Calibri">Southbury-Reservations are being taken for the 24</FONT></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><SUP><FONT FACE="Calibri">th</FONT></SUP></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Calibri"> season of the Shepaug Bald Eagle Observation Area, which opened Sat. 12/27/08.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Calibri">The area is run by First Light Power Resources, owner and operator of the Housatonic River Project hydroelectric facilities.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Calibri">Observation times are 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays through March 11.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Calibri">Admission is free, reservations are required. To reserve, call 800-368-8954 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Calibri">The area is popular for eagles in the winter when the turbulence below the dam keeps the water from freezing over and fish provide a ready food source.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Calibri">Local experts report an average of eight eagles per day feeding at the dam this time of year. Other birds seen in the area include red-tail hawks, sharp-shinned hawks, goshawks, great blue herons and waterfowl.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Calibri">Specialists will be at the site with high-powered telescopes to help visitors see the eagles in action and to answer questions. The observation area is unheated. Bring binoculars if possible.</FONT></SPAN></P>
