[NHCOLL-L:41] temperatures

We are attempting to get some stability in our temperatures by doing 
work on our HVAC system.  I know we should have stable temperatures 
of about 68 degrees F.  But what is stable?  How much variation is 
acceptible and how much is too much?  Have any studies been done?  
What is reasonable to expect?

An input will be gratefully appreciated!
