STRATIGRAPHIC PALEONTOLOGY DATABASE: NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

	Since 1976, over 2200 macrofossil samples have been collected by
the authors, primarily in western and central Newfoundland, but also from
eastern Newfoundland and southeastern Labrador; a comparable number of
microfossil (conodont) samples were also obtained. These internationally
significant collections are currently housed at the Howley Building;
additional holotype and paratype material is deposited at the Newfoundland
Museum.

	Most of the samples are from (a minimum of 120) stratigraphic
sections. Two relational (FileMaker Pro) databases are being maintained.
One concentrates on individual fossil localities, giving UTM coordinates,
etc. for fossiliferous outcrops and field stations. The second gives the
UTM coordinates of the bases and tops of stratigraphic sections; this is to
locate those fossil horizons, which have been collected as part of
reconnaissance and detailed biostratigraphic surveys.
