[NHCOLL-L:328] Mold/fungus on Nat. His. Specimens

Hello All,

I am new to this list, a friend recommended I ask this question to this
group.

I receintly received a hawk, it was sent frozen(by mail). Well, it was
"lost" for a day in the mail. When I opened the bag, it smelled odd (not
just dead). It had thawed but was still cool. I then found mold/fungus
growing under the feathers on the skin.

OK, the question- Should I prepare this as a skin? I am worried that at
some point in the future, if the humidity is high, that the spores might
grow and spread throughout the cabinet. I can wash it but I do not think
that will help kill the mold/fungus.

I think I should make it a skeleton, but the specimen was an important
addition to the collection. (My Prof. will not be happy)

Thanks for the help.
