JOINT FACULTY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT - PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENT TO HIRE

Curator of Fishes, University of Alaska Museum and
Assistant Professor of Fisheries, School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences

Description: The University of Alaska Fairbanks will be seeking qualified
applicants for the joint faculty position of Curator of Fishes in the
University Museum and Assistant Professor of Fisheries in the Fisheries
Division, School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. The appointee is expected to
teach, curate and develop a large collection of Nearctic fishes, supervise
graduate students, and establish an extramurally funded research program. Area
of specialty could include phylogeography, systematics or use of the
comparative method to address questions in the evolutionary biology of fishes.
Teaching duties require proficiency in English. Two courses will be taught per
year, including undergraduate courses in marine fishes and ichthyology in
alternate years and one or more graduate courses or seminars in the area of
specialty. A completed PhD in Biology, Fisheries or a closely related field at
the time of hiring is mandatory, and post-doctoral research, teaching and
curatorial experiences are desirable. The incumbent will interact and
collaborate with government agencies and other organizations.

Appointment is 9 months with up to an additional 3 months contingent upon
external funding.
