COLLECTION MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT POSITION
Department of Paleontology 
San Diego Natural History Museum


The Collection Management Assistant position is a two-year, NSF-funded
position in the Department of Paleontology.  This position will assist
senior personnel with all aspects of preparation and implementation of
moving the research collection to its new facility.  Tasks will include
assisting with preparing specimens, drawers and cases for the move,
re-gasketing older cases, moving specimens and cases, completing specimen
inventories and cross-checking data, upgrading of materials used for
storing specimens, and entry of specimen data into computerized database.

Preferred qualifications:  bachelor's degree or equivalent in biology,
geology or closely related field with relevant coursework in paleontology
and systematics; experience working with collections and relational
database systems; knowledge of preventive conservation and current
practices for handling and storage of paleontology specimens.

This is a two year full-time position beginning August 1, 2000; $12/hr with
benefits.
