Essentially there is a diversity of technologies utilised by inkjets, which
similarly utilise a range of inks. With inkjets these can be dye based, or
increasingly pigment based (see Epsons claims for their latest printers).
The black inks are becoming more stable - they have moved on a great deal
from the inks used a few years ago, and the manufacturers are developing
more permanent ink systems. Apparently many of the black inks are now carbon
black based. I have been using a pigmented refill ink in deskjets for over 4
years and these are proving to be very stable in fluid collection material.
