            Details
            The Natural History Museum has been awarded a grant under the
New
            Opportunities Fund Digitisation programme to construct a
“Citizens ’ Tree of Life ”.This is an exciting project that will deliver a
web-based ‘finding tool ’:a digital data-bank,developed for a non-specialist
audience,that will give access to scientific knowledge of UK wildlife and
provide a graphic interpretation of the system of classification of the
natural world.

            With access to the scientists and superb library facilities at
The Natural History Museum,you will have responsibility for gathering common
names for higher groupings of organisms to be found in the United Kingdom
and mapping them to Scientific names.Content that you assemble will be
presented using specially commissioned software.

            You will possess an extensive knowledge of UK wildlife,obtained
through working (for a minimum of two years)as a professional natural
scientist and through your own enthusiasm for the subject.You will have
experience in using database applications and will be familiar with
biological nomenclature
            and taxonomic classification.The ability to work on your own
initiative, assess facts and make reasoned judgements are also essential.
You must also have a first degree in either Biological or Environmental
Sciences.
