Colleagues,

Does anyone know of any long-term studies on the stability and durability of the plastic cellulose propionate? This is an older plastic (invented around 1929) that is commonly used for applications like spectacle frames and tube-based vials for food products. It is ostensibly a good low-cost material for museum storage, but even its makers are cagey about how long it lasts under normal conditions.
