[NHCOLL-L:1954] digitization of collections

Hello all,

I am currently working on a project that involves taking digital pictures of 
the Invertebrate type specimens housed in the Zoology Section of the CU Museum. 
For those of you working for museums that have digitized collections and 
offered online access to them, how has doing so affected 
requests/inquiries/research about those specimens, positively or negatively?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
