Hi folks!

Does anyone have any feedback about extracting DNA from samples
stored in IMS (industrial
methylated spirit). IMS is standard in the historical standard in
Ireland rather than pure ethanol, mainly motivated by a desire to
avoid paying liquor taxes! I have had several questions from
researchers recently who are interested in trying to extract
molecular sequence data from our older specimens that are entirely
stored in IMS. Particularly:
Is there a commercial kit known to be working nicely?
Is there a maximum storage-time beyond which we'd better not even
bother trying?

Thank you very much in advance!

Cheers,

Julia
