One of our curators forwarded information about an upcoming conference on the Blaschka models. The website has lots of interesting information about Blaschka model collections worldwide. Here is the website for the September 2006 conference http://www.ucd.ie/blaschka/

Subject: [NHCOLL-L:3012] Conservation of Blaschka glass models

Dear colleagues,

Some of you may remember my post last year about glass models of
marine invertebrates from an orphaned collection. Thanks to your
responses, we were able to move the specimens with almost no breakage
(I have photos of how we 'packed' them for transport, if anyone needs
that information )and we have about 150 of them now, in varying
condition. However, we are now in need of a glass conservator,
preferably one with experience with the Blaschka marine invertebrate
models (the Harvard glass flower collection is somewhat different in
composition and from what I understand, has different conservation
needs). If anyone, particularly from collections that have these
models, has any recommendations, please contact me off-list.

GREECE: SECRETS OF THE PAST is a sweeping OMNIMAX journey back in time. The film sets out on a quest to uncover the buried secrets of the Bronze and Golden Ages of ancient Greece. Using modern archaeology, the film weaves a compelling story about this culture's rapid progress in science, politics, philosophy, sports and art. Dig for clues at Santorini, dive into the Aegean Sea to discover a 2,000-year-old statue of Poseidon, and witness a remarkable re-creation of the Parthenon - this is classic OMNIMAX.
