Curator- Algae, 

£22,000-£27,000 plus benefits

The Department of Botany is looking to appoint a Curator to manage the internationally significant Algal Herbarium so as to maximize access and preserve it for current and future use.

You will carry out routine curation, develop and implement projects to maximize access to collections and associated data, monitor and minimize risks to the collections, and assist with the management and development of digital resources. You will also manage and encourage volunteers and work experience students working in the herbaria.

To be successful you must have a degree in biological science or equivalent experience. Previous natural history collections management experience is essential along with experience in routine identification of organisms, biological fieldwork and knowledge of a 'cryptogamic" group such as algae, lichens etc.

Curatorial Assistant

£19,000

The Department of Botany is currently looking to appoint a Curatorial Assistant to assist in the management of the "cryptogamic" collections (e.g. lichens and mosses) so as to maximize access and preserve them for current and future use.

You will assist with the curation of botany collections, enter data from specimen labels, prepare plant specimens for loans, and assist with the management of collections and the digital imaging of specimens.

To be successful you must have previous experience of working with either museum collections, accurate filing of documents or similar, entering data accurately, the ability to handle delicate materials, team working skills, familiarity with basic software packages and the ability to work with minimum supervision.
